Gently, but smoothly, cut his mouth open from the nose to the back of the snout. Sometimes looking at him from the front view helps with the cut. That way you keep it even on both sides of the head. Once you are happy with cut take a finger or tool and smooth the edges of his "lips". If you are not happy with the mouth you can always close his mouth, reshape the snout and cut again.
